Threats to cultural diversity, much like biodiversity, are impactful on all parties involved. With a lack of cultural diversity, countries suffer in terms of the lack of benefits from a monoculture. With diverse cultures and diverse parties of people, the country thrives more congruently, versus seeing areas of slowed or lack thereof growth overall. Diversity can play a large role in the formation of a country, and with the lack of diversity, countries can suffer from that idea of global acceptance.
I think that governments should always be involved in such matters. From a government standpoint, they are responsible for unified decision making and planning towards bettering and maintaining their area of govern. So, from that, they should be involved in legislation and funding towards protecting diversity both bio and cultural.
Not all parties agree to this idea of a “Big Brother” type government, however, in matters relating to our daily lives that are generally out of our immediate hands, we must rely on the protection of government resources. Sure, we could band together to protect and maintain cultural diversity, however, it’s the government’s job to think of the whole’s best interests and appoint based off of that.
